What goes on your label: a checklist

What a label needs before it can go to print.

Step 3 of 3 · Labels and artwork

Label checklist: your brand details, directions, contents, barcode and supplier details, plus the CLP hazard information we provide. Read next: CLP labelling, safety data sheets and barcodes.

A label has two halves: your brand side, and the hazard information we provide for every product.

Your side

  • Brand name and product name, and a line on what the product does.

  • Directions for use, including the dilution rates for concentrates.

  • Contents, for example 500 ml or 1 L.

  • Your barcode, from your own GS1 UK registration.

  • The name, address and telephone number of the business placing the product on the market. That is usually you, as the brand owner.

  • Website or contact details for your customers.

Our side, for every product

  • The hazard pictograms, signal word, and hazard and precautionary statements under GB CLP, where the product is classified.

  • Any other wording that the classification or ingredients of the product require, which we confirm for each product.

  • A UFI code and poison centre notification if you sell in Northern Ireland or the EU. Tell us before you order.

Leave room for it

Hazard information needs space. On packs up to 3 litres, each CLP pictogram must be at least 10 x 10 mm, and if possible 16 x 16 mm, and the text must be clearly legible. On a 500 ml wrap label, plan for the hazard information to take a good part of the back panel.

Your next step: Send your supplier details and barcodes with your production order request.
